Caring For Your Garments

Taking good care of your Friday Knits pieces will extend their life, conserve natural resources and minimise the chance of your knitwear ending up in a textile landfill.

Friday Knits pieces are created with the intent to be a part of your wardrobe for years to come. To ensure their longevity, we encourage thoughtful practices when caring for your pieces. Taking care of your garments will extend their life and minimise your environmental footprint. We recommend following the care instructions on the tag of your skein. If you’ve thrown it away, you can certainly check online as most brands will have that information on their website.

If you are still unsure of how to proceed, as general rule, we recommend a cool hand wash with a wool wash, followed by drying flat in the shade. Avoid machine washing, tumble drying, hot water and harsh chemical detergents. Limit washing until completely necessary.

REPAIR, MEND, DONATE

There is nothing sweeter than a hand-knit piece, so think twice before you let it go. If a button comes loose, or your knit shows signs of wear, we encourage you to repair it or repurpose it into something new.

When you are ready to let go of your knitted garment, consider hosting a clothing swap party with friends and family, have a garage sale or donate the item to support those in need in your local community.
